It's occurred to me I haven't said much about myself. I'm a 47-year-old damn yankee (you know, I came here and won't go back). I grew up in Pennsylvania, went to college in Atlanta, was stationed in Scotland during a tour in the Navy, and lived 15 years in Chicago before transferring to Jackson in 2000. I live in Clinton with my charming companion and our 3 large dogs. I don't expect I'll ever be a runner - I'm built for comfort, not for speed, after all - but I hope running will make me a better backpacker. I enjoy pretty much anything outdoors - camping, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, that kind of thing. I also cook, quilt, and am learning to garden. Just in case you were wondering.
I went by Fleet Feet and bought shoes and socks today, they're pretty spiffy, with orange stripes. We'll see if they help tomorrow! See you all then.

Hi, I'm another "transplanted" southerner. I'm not much of an outdoor person (I blame my dad, he never took me camping ha, ha); so I'm hoping this marathon will convert me..
